We typically feel safer repeating actions that we made in past experiences over changing our actions even if they are hurtful inappropriate. The fear of change locks us into a negative pattern, one where our belief system is telling us it's alright, even when others tell us otherwise. We become familiar with what we have already done and on some level believe that it wasn’t so bad or we wouldn’t have done it in the first place.
